Private visit at the Cone-tainer

Some yarn decisions are simply easier when you can see and touch the yarn in person.

For this reason, we now offer Private visit Shopping sessions at the Woolunatics warehouse — the Cone-tainer. These are dedicated 45-minute appointments where you can explore the collection in a calm, focused setting and receive personal guidance for your project.

What is the Cone-tainer?

The Cone-tainer is the heart of Woolunatics — our yarn warehouse filled with cones from Italy, England , Ireland and Japan.

The name comes quite naturally: it is a container full of cones, and over time it simply became the Cone-tainer. It is not a traditional yarn shop but a working space where yarn is stored, prepared, and shipped to knitters around the world.

Private visits allow us to open the doors in a way that keeps the experience personal, quiet and focused, without the rush of a regular store environment.

What to expect during a private visit

During your session we look beyond labels and fibre compositions. Instead, we focus on how yarns actually behave — both individually and when combined.

Many knitters discover that a project truly comes together once they can compare yarns side by side, feel textures, and see how different fibres interact. This is especially helpful when working with multiple yarns held together, something that is very common when knitting from cones.

During your visit you will have time to:

  • explore the Woolunatics yarn collection on cones
  • compare fibres, textures and colours
  • test possible yarn combinations for your project
  • receive guidance in choosing the right yarn structure and meterage
  • find companion yarns that work well together

In addition to the cones themselves, there is also an extended collection of knitted garments and samples available to explore. These pieces show what is possible when working with yarn on cones and often make it easier to imagine how a yarn might behave in a finished garment.

You will also find a small selection of original atelier pieces, offering a closer look at how professional knitwear is constructed and how different yarn structures are used in high-end garments.

Private shopping sessions are particularly helpful if you are planning a larger garment, experimenting with yarn blending, or simply prefer to make yarn choices with more certainty than online browsing allows.

Who benefits most from a Cone-tainer visit?

A private session is especially helpful for knitters who enjoy working with yarns on cones and want to better understand how different fibres behave together.

Many visitors come with projects such as:

  • sweaters where multiple yarns are held together
  • garments where meterage and yarn balance matter
  • projects that require mixing fibres like cashmere, yak, mohair or bouclé
  • patterns where the original yarn is unavailable and a suitable alternative needs to be built

Some knitters arrive with a very specific plan, others simply come to explore possibilities — both approaches work perfectly during a Cone-tainer visit.

Preparing your yarn

Because the Cone-tainer is a working warehouse, yarn is not wound or split during the visit.

If you decide on a custom amount of yarn or need cones to be divided, your order will be prepared after the appointment and can either be shipped to you or picked up later.

If you already have a specific yarn in mind before your visit, you are very welcome to let me know in advance. I can then prepare the appropriate cones so we can focus on combinations and project planning during the session.

Visiting the Cone-tainer

Private shopping sessions are designed for one knitter, with the option to bring one accompanying person.

If you would like to visit with a group, more time needs to be reserved. In that case, please feel free to contact me in advance so we can arrange a suitable appointment.

Booking a session

Private shopping sessions can be booked directly on the website.

If the currently available times do not fit your schedule but you have another day in mind, feel free to get in touch — we can always see what might be possible.

Terms of the appointment

Private shopping sessions are booked as 45-minute appointments.

€200 reservation payment is required when booking. This amount will be fully deducted from your yarn purchase during the appointment, so in practice it becomes part of your shopping budget.

Appointments can be rescheduled up to 24 hours in advance.

If you cancel your appointment, the paid amount will be refunded minus transaction costs.

For privacy reasons, the exact warehouse address will be shared in a separate confirmation email after your booking.

For those who prefer a different budget or are simply curious about the Woolunatics selection, we are also planning an Open Day soon as wel as bringing our yarn to Breidagen. More information will be shared via email and on Instagram.
