If you’ve ever wondered what yarn on cones looks like in real life — and whether it’s as irresistible as it looks on screen — the Open Day on Saturday April 18 is your chance to step inside the Cone-tainer and find out for yourself.
What is the Cone-tainer?
The Cone-tainer is the heart of Woolunatics — a working yarn warehouse filled with dead stock from Italian knitting ateliers and regular collections from England and Ireland. The name came naturally: it’s literally a container full of cones. Over time, it simply became known as the Cone-tainer. It’s not a regular yarn shop, but a behind-the-scenes space where yarn is sorted, combined, and shipped to knitters all over the world. Opening the doors for a day gives visitors a rare look inside this normally hidden part of Woolunatics.
What to expect during the Open day
During your visit, you’ll have time to wander through our unique yarn collection and discover the full potential of yarn on cones. You can compare fibres, colours, and textures side by side, get ideas for combining yarns. Discover unusual fibres and yarn structures.
Alongside the cones, we’ll also display knitted garments and samples to show what’s possible when working with cone yarn. These pieces help bring the materials to life and inspire new combinations. We’ll also have a small selection of original atelier garments, giving a closer look at how professional knitwear is constructed and how luxury fibres are used in finished pieces.
A practical note about the warehouse
Since the Cone-tainer is primarily a storage and working space, some yarns are kept on their original industrial bobbins.For this reason, yarn will not be wound or divided during the Open Day. If you decide on a custom quantity, it will be prepared afterward and can either be shipped to you or collected later.
Visiting the Cone-tainer
To keep the atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable, places are limited and reservation is required.

Prefer a quieter visit?
